Economic Analysis

The assessment’s economic analysis estimates the economic costs and benefits to New York State that could result from the changing climate. Using the climate projections as a starting point, the team has used the best available models to translate physical climate changes into monetary impacts on New York’s communities and industries. The analysis includes estimated costs and benefits for individual sectors. However, owing to data and methods limitations, this economic analysis quantifies just a fraction of the potential risks and damages that may occur.

This report is intended to provide insights about the potential direction and magnitude of the economic impacts of climate change on New York State. None of the estimates presented in this report should be interpreted as definitive predictions of future impacts at a particular place or time. Instead, the intent is to produce preliminary estimates of potential future impacts using the best available data and methods, which can then be revisited and updated over time as science and modeling capabilities continue to advance.
